Gangster Overload is a bit moodier than your usual underwater game, but it’s still easy enough to settle into once you get moving. You pick a room first, then line up your cannon in this strange little submerged hideout full of drifting fish, shadowy corners, and one octopus who definitely looks like he knows where the bodies are buried. The nice thing is that the game gives you a clear rule to work with right away: bullets follow the direction of your cannon, and if they miss, they bounce off the edge until they hit something.

That alone keeps the action lively, and the special tools help even more. Lock Target lets you stay fixed on one fish, while Auto Fire keeps the shots coming without all the repeated clicking. Then you’ve got the 20x effects. Grenade bombs hidden fishes, Laser Gun sets off a chain event to kill hidden fishes, and Sprayer stops all fish moving for a while. • Bouncing shots: Bullets follow your cannon direction and rebound off the screen edge until they hit a fish. That makes each shot feel more useful, even when the first angle misses.

• Grenade and Laser Gun: These two each pay 20x and take the more aggressive route. Grenade bombs hidden fishes, while Laser Gun triggers a chain event that does the same.

• Sprayer effect: Sprayer also pays 20x, but instead of blasting through targets, it stops all fish from moving for a period. Very handy when everything starts zipping about like it’s late for something.
